HOW I CAN HELP
More than two-thirds of American seniors will need some form of long-term care during their lifetime, and many people rely on Medicaid, to pay for some or all of their care. I advise clients about how to structure their income and assets to allow an ill spouse to qualify for Medicaid while protecting his or her healthy spouse and avoiding pitfalls that can increase costs or delay access to care.
Sometimes it is necessary for a court to appoint someone to make financial decisions for an adult who who cannot process information well enough to protect their own health, safety or finances. I represent guardians and conservators as well as persons under court supervision or those who object to the existence of a guardianship or conservatorship or wish to modify its terms.
Life can be complicated, and the most loving solutions aren't always the most obvious. Individualized planning to optimize your estate or avoid elder care problems and trouble-shooting when they occur often requires the involvement of an experienced, knowledgeable attorney. I've been an Oregon attorney since 1992, and I practice exclusively in the areas of estate planning, estate administration and probate, elder law and dispute resolution within these disciplines. Please enjoy my website. I hope you'll use it to find out a little bit about me and glean some useful information from the resources here.
Your estate is an important way to make a difference in the lives of your loved ones and in the larger world. I can assist you in achieving your estate planning goals, from minimizing taxes to protecting a surviving spouse or disabled child to providing for a grandchild's education to leaving a charitable gift in the most effective way possible.
Distributing a loved one's estate should not be a major source of frustration. I believe in working with clients to map out the best step-by-step plan possible, ensuring that everyone involved is well-informed about the process, and ensuring that all legal requirements are met so that personal representatives and trustees are protected from liability.

When a dispute about an estate or elder law issue can't be resolved, it may be time to involve the court. When that happens, my job is to advise you of your rights under the law and then zealously and thoroughly advocate to protect those rights. My approach is never about bluster or spin but about making the best possible legal argument to persuade the judge to rule in our favor.
